Lorin and Dazy, a female, seven year old, 7/8th Blue Heeler, and 1/8th Australian Shepard.
TALES Lorin and his "puppy dawg," Dazy, recently moved to town, when the City of Cottage Grove, needed a new City Building Official.
One of the wonderful things, about a small town, is the relaxed, friendly atmosphere which allows store owners, and local businesses, to break 'big city pet rules.' In California, Dazy had to stay at home alone, when Lorin went to work. Now, she has a day job, and proudly guards the city of Cottage Grove's Building Department Vehicle.
Look for her proudly sitting, with a smile on her face, next to Lorin, as he makes his rounds. Lorin shares, "When we are riding in the truck, like any gorgeous date, she wants me to hold her paw. She is an excellent communicator, and when she needs to stop for a break, she nudges the back of my shoulder."
Dazy is a ball-a-holic. She wants to play all the time. Lorin says, "Dazy bounces the ball, all by her self, teasing me to stay away, as she plays with it, by herself."
Dazy isn't a picky eater, according to Lorin, "She eats anything, that I am eating. If it is a salad, or a carrot, she will only eat it, if it is dipped in ranch dressing. Also, Dazy thinks bananas taste better, when they are green!" Lorin had Dazy spayed. He believes altering pets is important, as there are not enough homes, for other wonderful pets, like her. Because Dazy's bloodlines are herd breeds, cows mesmerize her. If she is sleeping in the truck, (during her Dog-Bone-Break), and Lorin see cows, and says, "Look cows!"
She jumps up and looks out the window.
If they stop, and walk over to the cows' fence, Dazy stares at them, with a confused look, wondering what to do with them next!
There still must be city-dog left in her, because a country dog would know just what to do!
TIPS Cats, rabbits and dogs need their nails regularly, and carefully trimmed.
Kittens and puppies won't snag your carpets, when their nails are clipped.
There is no reason to declaw a pet, when you invest in inexpensive nail clippers. Special nail clippers are sold locally at pet and feed stores.
When your pet is a baby, simply trim their toe nails once a week. Either, hold and cuddle the animal before, and after the exercise, or do it when they are asleep.
This way they become accustom to it, and you can do it later, with no struggles.
Gently slip the nail cutter over the nail, and snip the tip of the nail.
Lorin trims Dazy's toe nails, and he suggests, "I find two cuts are better than one. I start at the tip, then carefully inspect the color in her cuticle, before making the last cut."
If your pet fights you, when you clip their nails, take them to a professional Pet Groomer, who is trained to do it safely.
