Richard and Gus,
a nine year old, pure bred German Shepard.
TALES
Richard and Donna, were thrilled when a friend offered Gus to them, at three months of age.
Richard says, "Most of the time, Gus still acts, like he is three months old!"
Richard admires how loyal Gus is to his human family, and how protective he is of their home and yard. Gus's favorite thing to do, or his fetish, involves postal workers. He barks himself hoarse, when he sees one. On the other end of the scale, as protective as Gus is, he is extremely gentle with children, and loves cookies. Richard says, "Gus's favorite pastime is sitting on the couch, barking at everyone that goes by, as if to say hello." TIPS
"Shepard’s are prone to hip and joint problems, if they don’t have enough space to run. Exercise is a must for all dogs, and especially Shepards.
On these hot summer days, wait to walk your dog when the air is cooler. This way they will not dehydrate, or burn the pads of their feet on HOT pavement. If you can’t walk on a surface barefoot, then dogs should not be walking on it either.
Everyone likes to drink fresh water. Stagnant water is unhealthy for your pet. Keep their drinking water fresh. Also, a children’s wadding pool, is a great way for dogs to cool off in the summer. Because Gus is from a litter of 14 pups, Richard and Donna had Gus neutered, knowing that the world is already full of too many homeless puppies.
