Toto Learns There is No Place Like Home
View online: ![]() Photo by Mary Ellen "Angel Scribe"© Toto TALES TIPS 'n' TALES is officially a year and a half old!
One of our first stories was about Jack and Joan, and their traveIin' dog, Dolly.
They adopted, Dolly, from Eugene's Animal Regulation Authority, after she was found wandering the streets, looking for food and comfort. Dolly was their constant companion and protector, until recently! Toto has arrived! Also, found wandering the streets, Jack and Joan adopted him from Roseburg's Saving Grace Animal Shelter. Jack says, "When the dogs are not sleeping, they are rough-housing with each other, all over the house. They are good company, and great exercise for each other!" Joan says, "Toto was very frightened when we first got him, and especially afraid of raised hands. We are working with him, and letting him know, that no one will ever hurt him again. Now, every day, Toto becomes more playful. He loves to swipe my socks, if he gets a chance." Toto's claim to fame is, that he was recently entered in a "Toto" look alike contest. Dolly's special talent is, waving her front paws in the air, when told, "Praise the Lord" or she begs for food. Dolly dances and barks, when she sees Jack preparing for a tricycle ride. Only when Dolly is put in the tricycle's basket, does she quit barking. Then she smiles. Now, Toto understands, and demands to be taken for rides too. Look for them riding down the Bike Trail, with Toto sitting with one paw over the basket, as if he is in a comfortable arm chair. It is obvious that both Dolly, and Toto, are happy. They discovered, what Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz, "There is no place like home!" TIPS If you are searching for a specific breed of pet, your local humane societies and pet rescues, are now listing all their 'eager to find homes for' pets on www.PetFinder.org
It is not the breed that makes a pet perfect, it is how they touch your heart! Janetta Overholser, President of Humane Society of Cottage Society says, "Animals adopted at a Humane Society have been vaccinated and altered. And the adoption fee is less expensive than a "free" pet elsewhere that is in need of these services."
