He desperately wanted a fish tank, but was not sure what breed of fish to put in it.
His eyes lit up, the minute, Steve Tyron, owner of Tropical Pets told him, "African Cichlids love eating worms."
Up until that point, Gunner had wondered what kind of fish he wanted to care for.
The idea of feeding blood worms to fish, instantly sold him on the Cichlids. (Not earth worms, as they contain pesticides.)
Gunner said, "It is fun to get a new fish, and pick out its name. So far I have Dumbo, Speedy, Bullet, Treasure, and Warrior. Most people don't know, that there are hundreds of types of African Cichlids, ranging in various colors. The fish love hiding in rocks, and you have to feed them, or they will eat the other fish in the tank.
They get big, and can grow 6-12 inches. Do not get a small tank, they need a lot of space, and they love to eat brine shrimp. When they get big, you can even feed them night crawlers. As the fish grow up, they change colors. I like them, because they are cool, and chase other fish. Watching them at bedtime, helps me relax. Some day, I hope to breed Cichlids, because they take care of their babies. They let their babies swim, into their mouths, when there is danger nearby."
Gunner's mother Sheri said, "Gunner loves his fish, and they entertain our family. We love watching the fish's different personalities. And, feeding time is the best time to catch some excitement!" TIPS Gunner said, "African Cichlids need coral in their tank. Coral helps keep the PH level of the water higher. They also need a heater to keep their water warm."
